Our Mission

Our mission is to build character and hope for tomorrow in young people by helping them find and extend their limits through encounters with themselves, those around them, and Jesus Christ in the wilderness.

Our unique all-summer wilderness program for young people ages 13 - 17 challenges each student in every area of his or her life. Our approach balances group experience and solitude, physical challenge and skills learning, supportive relationships and structured activity. Our caring staff provide role modelling, direction, support, and esteem for each student, to help them overcome themselves and meet the demands of the program and of group life. Ultimately, their example and teaching set the stage for our students to confront the person each is becoming and the claims of Christ on their lives.

Provides ten weeks of tight structure and intense relationships. Though students are provided with a Christian counselor, the community Christian living is the most important aspect. Providing boundaries and consequences, MWA uniquely exposes students to the Canadian wilderness.

Individual counseling helps each student to sort through his or her needs, desires, strengths, weaknesses, and perceptions. Self-reflection is encouraged by daily journals, group discussions and the solo experiences. Counselors help students gain a new perspective on themselves, those around them and their families. MWA is a great start for students beginning their time with NHYM, allowing staff to watch and evaluate the level of care needed.
